Lauren Smith (she/hers) is a writer and science communicator who is really into birds. Originally from Ohio, she now calls western Montana home, though her journey there involved field seasons of bird research and travels in many states around the U.S. and a brief stint in New Brunswick, Canada.
A former field biologist (mostly bird banding and point counts) and environmental educator who spent a few years in the disability research field, she now works as the communications specialist at a small nonprofit focused on bird research and conservation. Lauren spends as much time as possible outdoors, climbing on rocks, ambling along trails, taking other people’s dogs for hikes, and sharing unsolicited bird information. And looking at birds, of course.
She doesn’t have a single favorite bird, but lately she’s been into Waved Albatrosses. And American Dippers. And Red-breasted Nuthatches. And Purple Finches.
