I am a writer, a field biologist, an environmental educator, and someone who spends a great deal of time thinking about birds. I prefer to be outside as much as possible, because that’s where there are rocks to climb and birds to see.
Lately this albatross has set up a home territory in Missoula, Montana, and I work with the RTC:Rural, a Research and Training Center housed at the University of Montana. Knowledge Translation Associate makes me sound very official. I’m fairly certain I’m the only person who works there who has held a pileated woodpecker.

Thanks for following! I like your blog and am an avid birder myself. Never leave home without your field guide! Travel safe.
Thanks! I like your blog too, what a cute idea. I look forward to following Kongo’s exploits.
And I never leave home without binocs and a field guide, I feel naked without them 🙂
Safe travels to you as well!
Hi Lauren, I found your youtube video of black skimmers feeding at Merritt island and it is great. Can you give me any clues about the beautiful piece of music you used in the video? Thanks so much – I need more of that! Lynn
Hi Lynn,
Sorry not to get back to you sooner, I had to unexpectedly travel out of state. I’ve been meaning to respond for quite some time now. The song is called Limerock, from the album Appalachian Journey by Yo-Yo Ma, Mark O’Connor, and Edgar Meyer (2000).
I’m so glad you liked my video! Thanks!
What an adventure you are on! I totally dig your love for biology.
Thanks! I’ve been enjoying your blog too! Thanks for visiting and checking out my page 🙂
